A while back I started noticing symptoms of that dreaded lifter failure like the Hemi Tick. Took it to a dealer, got it fixed under warranty. Lifters and a gasket were replaced, they said the camshaft is fine. Picked it up on Monday after waiting a week, and now I'm hearing the tick again.   • The "Hemi Tick" has been reported at various noise levels, and in both automatic and manual cars. It bothers some folks, others it doesn't. Some ticking is minor, some not. OP, the "bad" lifter shouldn't have gotten out of the factory that makes them, but that's mass production.

Hey guys, i drive a 14 300 SRT 8, any of you guys experience the "Hemi Tick" with your 300's? Is this normal or do i have a problem? It is not super loud or anything and the car drives fine, it is just a subtle noise and if you listen carefully you can hear ticking/tapping. Now in my last car... I have owned a 5.7 hemi since 2009 and they do have a slight lifter noise pretty much constantly. It is not abnormal. A loud lifter noise (clattering is what i call it) is not however normal and the car will make it if it sits for an extended amount of time regardless of the filter type you use.

The tick is normal.. I think what LPD is talking about most likely is the valve spring issue, some Hemi's are having.. Myself, and almost everyone else I know that has the new Hemi has the tick. Go over to dodgetrucks.org and do a search for Hemi tick.

For example, the air flow meter normal output range is 0.8 to 1.6 volts. If the ECU detects 0 volts, it registers a fault condition. However, if the air flow meter is faulty and putting out a voltage in the range 0.8 to 1.6 volts, then obviously the ECU is not going to register a fault. If you had heard some of the early modern hemi's you could associate the tick quite easily. Newer hemi's are much quieter now. I know because I have had 4 of them including a 2012 JGC. Don't get me wrong. Some folks have had problems, but it has been blown way out of proportion so far. A PCV valve's job is not only to stop boost pressure from getting into the crankcase, but to also meter/restrict the amount of vacuum pulled on the crankcase during normal cruise and idle operations.
